The magic system is pretty satisfying, and the combat feels fast paced and tight. A Zelda-esque RPG in its truest fashion. An excellent, though-out, classic RPG story adventure brought to life in VR. The 1st Chapter is a well-made 4-5 introduction to the world and story accompanied by satisfying sword combat and magic gameplay.The story is a simple but time-honored plot that fills the player with a reason to exist and fight in this world. There are dungeons, boss fights, upgrades, secrets to discover, puzzle-situations to solve that advance the adventure. Combat and interactions are unlike most other VR games that feel clunky and unsatisfying. Everything you do feels right and you decide what approach you want to take given your options. You will be taught the basic skills but it will be up to you to utilize them in the way that you feel works best for your play-style. Your plans of attack can be thoughtful instead of simply brute force. You will have lots to consider but it all feels great - from learning to parry with your sword, to thinking about the force and angles of your strikes, deciding when to sneak or bust out the bow from a distance, when to use certain magics and learning to juggle between your spells, using the environment to your advantage, and for me, even the stance that I take in the real-world to position myself for battle when my defenses got low became critical to my survival! Vengeful Rites is an exceptional "Made-for-VR" single-player, campaign title that takes us back to the golden age of well-crafted classic games that created within us a sense of fun and discovery that resulted from the mixing of story, characters and player progression. The VR designed interaction is awesome and is exactly what I want out of a VR game. I love playing the "mystic knight" archetype, and I really love that I can attack and block with the sword, and gesture to cast spells. I also love that magic is used for some of the puzzle solving.Initially my biggest complaint is that the graphics are pretty weak. It's a small dev team and it shows on the graphical front. But after playing for a bit I realized I stopped caring about the graphics because I was enjoying the experience so much.I hope the Dev team can find the funding they need to finish this great game!!I do have some suggestions (I\u2019ve reached the 2nd merchant stall in the game so it\u2019s possible some of this may be already implemented):-It\u2019d be cool if there were mob-level enemies that required a change in tactics (ie: enemies that are very good at blocking your attacks and require spells or archery, or enemies that are completely resistant to fireballs\u2026 mixing them together so variations have to be done on the fly).-I'd love to see the removal of the magic menu entirely, perhaps using the pad to click in the 4 directions for the schools or gestures.-I'd also love to see more variety in the magical spells, particularly in the category of world interaction\/movement abilities. For example a short range teleport spell, maybe with the ability to switch orientation (teleport behind your enemy and stab them in the back). Or cast a decoy that could distract enemies in situations where there are groups.-I\u2019d like to see physical dodging (without strafing\/teleport move)\u2026 maybe do the matrix-time-slow-down when arrows come your way, or heavy slow attacks from enemies that can\u2019t be blocked and must be dodged.-Right now defensive spells is really just blocking and managing mana. I\u2019d be really cool if there were defensive spells that were tailored to situations that required more decision making to use. For example, maybe a shield that is very effective for melee but worthless against ranged, or maybe a spell that reflects magical attacks or absorbs for mana.-In the same vein, it would be cool if there were more complicated things you could do with your sword. Maybe a disarm-mechanic that relies on perfect timing or something like that.. Great game. It does a lot of thigs how i would want them in all VR RPGs. Ladders actually require you to climb them, the inventory is your backpack, which you need to grab from your back to access etc. The Swordfighting is great (parrying, strike speed etc matters). The magic system is good, but sadly it uses a spell-selection menu to change spells (but quite a good menu tbh). I would recommend to test the Demo, and if liked, to buy.Imortant notice: As this game is early access, only the first chapter (took me 4h 30min to complete) is available, but more are to come..
